The Publons Academy launched today. A free training course for early career researchers that gets students directly involved in peer review.
I am very proud to have been involved in the development of this course, and look forward to continuing to work on its success.
More than just a note-taking e-learning exercise, the Academy walks students through the most common sections of an empirical research article, building up a review of the complete paper as the course progresses.
Tutorials and videos from experienced, high profile researchers and publishing industry figureheads provide details, best practice guidance and analytical skills for assessing papers and submitting reviews, which are useful for both journal editors and authors, and the careers of ECR's beyond peer review itself.
The course requires students to write post-publication reviews under the guidance of a supervisor, to endorse the reviews, before entering graduates into the reviewer pool to be selected by journal editors.
An essential platform for anyone at the start their career in academia, peer review and research publishing.
